Cooler temperatures means warmer beverages, and one of my absolute favorite cold-weather drinks is a delicious cup of cocoa. Although many of you probably grew up on instant hot chocolate packets made with water like I did, I think you deserve something a bit more decadent. So here’s our recipe for the perfect cup of hot chocolate. And here’s an extra tip: They go wonderfully with snickerdoodles!

PREP:  1 minute
COOK: 4 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon best quality cocoa powder (We prefer Ghirardelli Premium Baking Cocoa)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • marshmallows, whipping cream or ice cream for garnish

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a small sauce pan, warm milk over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t burn and stick to the bottom.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together cocoa powder and sugar until well combined and no clumps remain.
  3. Once milk is warm but not boiling, add cocoa mixture to pan; stir to combine. When hot chocolate reaches desired temperature, pour into a large mug and top with marshmallows or a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

YIELDS: 1 serving
