Our Life In Clam Chowder
January 1, 2014 3 Comments

It’s a new year and the perfect time for starting new chapters in life. In 2014, our next chapter will take us to New England where we will move early this year. That means new jobs, new adventures, and most of all lots of fresh, yummy seafood!
We flew into Boston a couple of months ago to scout out Massachusetts and we quickly realized that we would soon become New Englanders. The people were very warm and welcoming, and there is a ton of ethnic diversity, something we sorely missed living in the South. Now we will have neighbors from all over the map, but in particular lots of vivacious, funny, and boisterous Portuguese folks! (In fact, tens of thousands gather every summer here for the largest Portuguese Feast in the country, so it’s quite a big deal.)
Many of the locals were quick to tell us all about what else made their community great. As we explored parts of the Cape Cod and South Coast region and took a day trip to Rhode Island, we instantly loved the salty sea air, the quaint seaside towns and all the history that the area has to offer. After all, this is where pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, pirates lost their treasure (the pirate ship Whydah Gally sank here with 4.5 tons of treasure), Ahab chased Moby Dick, Steven Spielberg filmed Jaws, the Juice Guys started Nantucket Nectars, and the world’s greatest musicians gather for the Newport Jazz Festival each summer.
So today as the new year gets underway, we’re busily packing in preparation for this latest adventure, excited by all the possibilities the future holds including lots of promised visits from our friends across the country. Together, we’re destined to uncover historic gems, learn new culinary skills and embrace what we like to call “our life in clam chowder.”

It’s easy to get excited about New England because we’re surrounded by the sea which just seems to infuse us with energy. Plus we will get to explore new places, sample new foods, and meet tons of new people!
