Heather Takes To The Airwaves As A Morning Radio Show Co-Host

I’ve always known that my wife has the gift for gab. So when I started working at the radio station, I’ve always had it in the back of my mind that she’d be a natural as a co-host on a morning show. After all, there isn’t much that she can’t chat about and she’s never met a stranger, so interviews would be a breeze. This week all of my sneaking suspicions proved true!

The holidays are always rather hectic at a radio station. DJs scurry about trying to take the last bit of vacation time before they lose it at the end of the year. But this also can leave us in a bit of a predicament staffing wise because the studios start to resemble a ghost town.

When I realized that this was the case this year as well, I asked Heather if she’d ever given thought to being on the radio. “Me? What would I say,” she asked.

I raised an eyebrow and said, “You’re kidding, right? You could carry on a conversation with a total stranger and never bat an eye.”

“Well, that’s true.” She admitted.

I asked the staff at the station if they’d like to give her a try, and since they all like her and know how good she is at conversation, they said we should do it.

This past Thursday, Heather took to the airwaves as the morning show co-host and did a fabulous job! Not only did she spar well with her co-host, Jim Weaver, and our news guy, John Williams, but she had a great time doing it. By the end of the show, Jim asked her to come back again on Friday. The three of them laughed so much together that frequently Jim had to get them back on track to keep the show running on time. But that just made for fun, engaging on-air banter that the audience seemed to love.

So will Heather pursue a future career as a radio broadcaster? Time will tell. But until then, at least through the end of the year, she’s going to have fun co-hosting the show. Tune in at KKYR 102.5 FM if you’re in the Ark-La-Tex, or stream the show live between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday through Friday at kkyr.com or via our RadioPup app on your smart phone.
