Have you ever felt like you were destined for greatness? Is there a little voice in your head that whispers, and sometimes screams, that you are more than just average? Do you find yourself reaching out for success, only to fail on an epic scale? If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, then you are going to love Sarah Robb O’Hagan. Although she’s been in your shoes more than once, she ultimately found the way to come out on top, and now she wants to show you how to do it too in her new book, Extreme You.

Sarah Robb O'Hagan's EXTREME YOU

This is one of those books that is going to change your life. But be warned: you have to do some work. Not only do you need the desire to succeed, but you have to be ready to take a good long hard look at yourself from multiple perspectives.

Chapter seven, “Play Your Specialist Game,”  really struck a chord for me. Under the section, “Extreme Moves,” O’Hagan teaches us how to really become good at saying the little two-letter word, “NO.” Doing so can have a huge impact on your life, and she gives us eight ways to say no without offending others, and they are pure genius! (pg. 173-174)

Today at work, I used number three, “the Introduction,” which is to “offer to put people in touch with someone who can help them better than you can.” Let me tell you, it works with absolute success! I can already tell that you that I will continue using this method as a way to get my colleagues to readily ask others for assistance rather than always using me as their personal touchstone.

Another takeaway for me was found in chapter Six, “Stay Stubbornly Humble.” Under the section, “Extreme Moves,” Sarah reminds us to readily admit when we don’t know something. There’s no shame in it, whether you’re making this confession to others or to yourself.

“I have often been surprised that as soon as I asked for help, others didn’t see me as weak—in fact, they seemed to gain respect because I took the time to develop a missing skill,” Sarah says. (Pg. 147) That’s why it is important to learn from everyone around us, rather than pretending like we know everything. Sometimes our most awkward moments can lead to our biggest successes.

Although this book is filled with brilliant revelations and more than a dollop of motivation, one lesson Sarah wants all of us to remember is that “the limit on your success is ultimately not something in you; it’s how effectively you can bring out the Extreme in others.” (pg. 221) I love that, especially since I always try to live by that creed! Because, let’s face it, the most fulfilling experience we can have is when we actively participate in helping others accomplish more and realize their own potential.

Jam packed with inspiring accounts of influential people with humble beginnings, this book is a tool that can supercharge your soul and ready you for practically any challenge. That’s why Extreme You should be mandatory reading for anyone with a dream, who wants to take on a new challenge or change direction in life. If you want to succeed, let Sarah Robb O’Hagan be your wing man.

“Because, let’s face it, the most fulfilling experience we can have is when we actively participate in helping others accomplish more and realize their own potential.” YES! I’ve been thinking a lot about the phrase, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Lifting the tide of someone else can help us as well!

We totally agree Trish! And coming from Massachusetts where we watched the fishing boats set sail every day out of the harbor, we really love that phrase about the rising tide. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love that part about bringing out the extreme in other people – that is so key! What a great way to look at success!

Thanks for being a part of the tour.
