Breakfast Week: Tropical Smoothie

Heather drinks a tropical smoothie

For a quick and tasty breakfast on the go, few things top a delicious, fruity smoothie.

Smoothies have always been popular in our house. Filled with nutritious berries and fresh fruit, they are delicious, simple and satisfying, especially on a hot day! We particularly love their portability.

This recipe rises above the rest, however, because it adds a powerful ingredient which delivers an extra boost of energy and staves off hunger pangs until lunch. What’s the secret? Oatmeal!

PREP: 5 minutes

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1 cup frozen berries
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 banana, cut up
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice
DIRECTIONS
  1. Place ice and berries in the bottom of blender, then add all other ingredients on top. Blend until completely smooth. Serve.

YIELDS: 2 – 4 servings
