In my opinion, autumn is the perfect time of year to bake because two of my favorite things are in season: apples and cranberries! While Heather is the primary baker in our house, there are a few things I do like to prepare when she’s not using the oven. In this case, I love this hybrid recipe which takes advantage of ripe seasonal fruit and tops it with yummy batter that rises too thick to be called a traditional cobbler. But it is oh so good. With the arrival of autumn and cooler temperatures, soup is the natural food of choice in our kitchen. We love it because we can eat off one big pot all week, or serve it up to guests for a wonderful Sunday afternoon supper. This week we craved the hearty goodness and delicious Italian flavors of this yummy Chicken Tortellini Soup. The first cookie I ever learned to make is Snickerdoodles. I loved them because they were fairly simple to prepare, but quite delicious and addictive. Basically a yummy butter cookie, this New England staple gets its flavor from cinnamon and sugar. Sweet potato fries are a must-have side for certain dishes, and even though we limit the amount of starch we consume, we still enjoy these on our monthly fish and chips night. They’re sublime when dipped in some homemade harissa, aïoli, or pesto.
