A mother’s love lasts forever. (Photo by Eduardo Merille, Flickr)

I’ve been blessed to know some very special women in my life, women who were moms not only to their own children, but also mother figures to their children’s friends. One such woman, Nelda, was my friend Paul’s mom. From the time I was a young boy, she was always there, proud and nurturing to her three sons, who she watched grow up, get married, and become fathers themselves. Sadly, death claimed her almost five years ago, much too soon. But I always admired her loving spirit, her kindness, and her devotion to her family. Mothers like Nelda, my own mom Darcy, and countless others like them inspired me to write this poem. I hope you enjoy it. Continue reading “‘A Mother’s Love Will Stay’ [POEM]”

Robert B. Parker’s iconic Boston based private investigator, Spenser, is back and snarkier than ever in Slow Burn. When an old church is torched in the South End, three firefighters are killed in the blaze and Captain Jack McGee wants answers. But the church was just the beginning, and soon a rash of fires engulfs Boston, and neither the cops or the arson unit are able to turn up any viable leads. So McGee enlists the P.I.’s help, and together with Hawk, Sixkill, and the sultry Susan, Spenser starts his own investigation off the books, rattling cages and earning himself even more enemies than usual. But will he identify the culprit before it is too late? Continue reading “Ace Atkins Ignites Boston In ‘Robert B. Parker’s Slow Burn’ [REVIEW]”

Little and King

Today my new Little Brother and I went out on our first outing, and one of the things we definitely have in common is our love for animals. Although he doesn’t have a dog of his own yet, he told me he loves poodles and chihuahuas, and likes petting and playing with the pets his grandparents and neighbors have. So a visit to my favorite local animal shelter seemed like a great way to get the ball rolling in our relationship. Continue reading “Paying It Forward One Canine At A Time”
