Highlands-born Lady Samantha Penwith is a woman on a mission. A widow, she is determined to find out who murdered her husband, founder of a charitable school for orphaned boys. As she goes undercover and takes to the streets of Edinburgh, she witnesses another man being assaulted and she rushes to his aid.

Dr. Braden Kendrick has always been the sensible sort. But when it comes to treating his patients, he throws caution to the wind and doesn’t think twice before entering the city’s slums, at least until he’s attacked.

Now Braden would like to thank the person who so graciously rescued him, but first he needs to find out her true identity. When he finally does, they both begin to experience feelings they once thought dead and buried. Will they be able to outrun their pasts and find lasting love in one another’s arms? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

As always, Vanessa Kelly delivers another non-stop romantic adventure filled with her trademark wit and plenty of delicious banter. As such, Braden and Sam come across as larger than life, and are a pure joy to watch.

The suspense level is spot on too, but so is the emotional angst, for both elements keep us turning pages, eager to get at the truth behind the attacks and Sam’s husband’s death. Mostly, however, the love that unfolds between these two characters will make you swoon and your heart flutter.

Decadent and delicious, The Highlander’s Holiday Wife is a tale that is compelling and fraught with emotion. As such, it makes for the perfect winter read. So, brew the cocoa, grab your favorite throw and burrow beneath it beside the fire as you crack open Kelly’s latest. It will remind you why you fell in love with Clan Kendrick in the first place and will reaffirm your belief in second chances.
