She gave up everything for love. Then it blew up in her face. Now she swears she’s done, but some meddling ladies aren’t about to let her give up so easily. Will she ever learn to trust again? Find out in Melinda Curtis’s first Sunshine Valley novel, Can’t Hurry Love.
Remember when the Supremes sang, “But Mama said, ‘You can’t hurry love. No, you just have to wait?” Well, none of us like to wait. We like to experience everything we can as soon as possible. However, finding the right person, the one who is truly your other half, takes patience and courage.
When Lola Williams married Randy, she thought she knew him. He said all the right things. He even did all the right things: giving her flowers on special occasions, making romantic gestures, and being present enough to listen to Lola’s thoughts.
A year after they exchange marriage vows, Lola becomes a widow and finds herself wondering why she put all her dreams on hold for love. She promises herself that she’ll never love again, but little does she realize the matchmaking ladies of the Sunshine Valley Widows Club take this as a personal challenge.
Enter Sheriff Drew Taylor. He hasn’t had much success with love either. So when Lola asks him to help her unearth the secrets of Randy’s life, he finds himself unable to turn her down. Now, as they dig up the past, the Widows Club watches them both with keen interest. The big question remains though, will Lola and Drew tear down the walls they’ve so carefully constructed around their hearts and let love in? Find out in Can’t Hurry Love.
This is one of my favorite kinds of novels, because it is more than just a sweet and witty romance, it is a smart study of human nature and what happens to a woman when she loves. Through the character of Lola, author Melinda Curtis helps women everywhere examine their most private thoughts and motivations and find their inner strength.
When we grieve for what could have been, time has a way of helping us accept the here and now and to ultimately understand what may be possible in the future. Just like a butterfly who has climbed out of its chrysalis only to wait for its wings to dry and unfurl, Lola must make an equally dramatic transformation. She needs to demonstrate patience before she can fly, because it takes time to learn life’s lessons and summon up the courage to soar.
Curtis folds all of this into a story that is as joyful as it is cathartic, and the result is a novel that should not be missed. Can’t Hurry Love throbs with joy, drama, and the unstoppable power of the human spirit. You’re gonna love it!
This edition also includes the bonus novella Kiss Me in Sweetwater Springs by Annie Rains.
