Raul is the latest recruit at Search and Protect. Thankfully, he’s not alone as he’s been paired with a gorgeous German Shepherd named Taz. Together, they’re unstoppable, which is a good thing since they’re being sent to Hawaii to stop an international kidnapping ring from capturing the bravest woman Raul has ever met.

Island life is great, until a girl has to find someplace to hide. Then it suddenly seems claustrophobic! At least Mali has Taz around to keep her safe, not to mention Raul, a hunky hero willing to lay down his life for her. But close proximity fosters romance, and with the kidnappers closing in, they must channel that energy into a steely will to survive.

Although Total Bravery is the first novel I have read by Piper J. Drake, I could not pass it up. Why? Because of Taz. Yes, this fiercely loyal pooch stole the spotlight in this book for me. Sure, Taz is paired with the ruggedly handsome handler, Raul. However, Drake’s descriptions which show the emotions and caring attitude of the shepherd stole my heart.

As a dog owner of a fiery, energetic miniature schnauzer who is also very loving, I enjoy reading novels which highlight the affectionate nature of animals. These creatures were truly created to bring joy, comfort and love to our lives. Drake not only brings to light Taz’s protective nature, but also the intelligence and loyal obedience a dog has for its master—a master who treats his companion with respect and love.

In Total Bravery, Taz will do what is needed to help in any situation, always trusting his handler will look out for his best interest. This is a wonderful novel in which the close-knit duo—a man and his dog—work together to save another person from a life threatening situation. If you’re an animal lover with a penchant for romance and just a touch of danger, this is the book for you!
