Annie Rains' SNOWFALL ON CEDAR TRAIL

Forever

The holidays have arrived and Halona Locklear’s flower shop is doing a booming business. But there are things more important than work and money, namely her young son, and she’s determined to give him the quality time he deserves.

When dashing police chief Alex Baker offers to help make their wishes come true, she should be over the moon about it. But the truth is, she has a secret she wants to keep hidden, and getting close to Alex could threaten her ability to do that.

Having always had a secret crush on Halona, his best friend’s little sister, Alex refuses to be thwarted. Instead, he becomes more determined than ever to make this the most wondrous season of all for both her and her adorable boy. But in order to enjoy the magic, she must decide what is truly most important: taking her secrets to the grave or giving her heart to the one man who could banish their demons forever.

Although this initially seems like a lighthearted seasonal tale ready made for the Hallmark Channel’s winter lineup, there is more depth to this novel than initially meets the eye. Despite its sweet romance and a chance at happiness with a forever family, the underlying story is a deep and nuanced examination of what it takes to move beyond a tragic past.

Halona and her son have just escaped a life rife with violence, one where her former husband brought it across their threshold and into their home. And yet, her emotions are conflicted and she is loathe to reveal the truth to anyone. Meanwhile, Alex understands her predicament. Only he is convinced she must broach the subject and clear the air before she jeopardizes her son’s future forever.

There’s a reason Annie Rains is gaining popularity. She has a knack for writing a heartwarming novel that addresses serious topics, including the domestic violence seen here. But she also understands the human condition, and the terror that comes when one tries to control their emotions even as their world spirals out of control. As we learn here, sometimes the hardest thing to do is confront the elephant in the room.

Filled with pathos, humanity, and loads of charm, Rains reminds us that we can deal with anything if we have the support of friends and family. Don’t miss reading this delightful novel. Snowfall on Cedar Trail will capture your heart!

Note: This edition also includes the bonus novel, Then There Was You, by Miranda Liasson.
