Busy with her big city life, a young woman takes a break and returns to the sleepy seaside village where she grew up and soon realizes just how much she misses it. Not only that, she discovers what truly makes life worthwhile and which dreams are most important. Take a pause from your own hectic life to enjoy JoAnn Ross’s brand new Honeymoon Harbor series and its debut novel, Herons Landing.

Brianna Mannion has just quit her job as a Las Vegas concierge. The bright lights of the big city have lost their appeal, and she longs for a simpler life far away from the hustle and bustle of Vegas. She’s also tired of always working so hard to meet her wealthy clients’ demands. So she returns to Honeymoon Harbor, set in the stunning Pacific Northwest, to follow her own dreams of opening a bed and breakfast in a charming Victorian home on the sea.

Little does she realize, her best friend’s widower, Seth Harper, is selling such a property. After losing his wife, he’s worked hard to stay out of the social scene in his tiny community. But that is easier said than done, especially when family and friends decide to throw him and Brianna together. Who knows, if they can find the courage to open their hearts, they may be able to carve out a bit of happiness for themselves… if Seth can stop grieving long enough to see the possibilities that lay in store for them both.

JoAnn Ross is a gifted storyteller with a knack for writing vivid detail. In creating Honeymoon Harbor, she has crafted a charming community we’d all love to visit. In many ways, reading about it reminded me of the small town where we used to live in Massachusetts, a place where people took the time to know one another and shared what they had with their neighbors.

Ross writes with languid prose, and even though her characters are richly drawn, my only hesitation comes from the fact that the story tends to drag a bit for the first half of the book because the author takes her time to set the groundwork for the series. So if you’re someone who likes a story that moves at James Patterson’s breakneck pace, Herons Landing isn’t going to be the book for you. However, if you’re a fan of long-running series like Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove books, then you’ll definitely want to add this book to your reading list. It’s an enjoyable escape to a place where history is important, people matter, and life is truly lived.
