Deveraux weaves a touching story of two people striving to come to terms with a change in circumstance yet unable to begin the journey on their own.

Deveraux’s description of Hallie reminded me of myself when I was younger. She is constantly putting the thoughts and feelings of her stepsister ahead of her own dreams and concerns. Although Hallie wants to break the dysfunctional cycle, she can’t quite allow herself to let go of this role.

For many of us thrust into the role of caretaker, it is hard to allow others to be held accountable for their own decisions. In these scenes, Jude Deveraux deftly pens heartbreaking, authentic characters the reader can identify with on multiple levels.

I could not put the novel down until I finished the very last page. In fact, I stayed up well after one o’clock in the morning to finish the story! Therefore, it’s with great delight that I encourage you to read Jude Deveraux’s Ever After. I’m sure you’ll lose yourself in the captivating, multi-faceted plot, characterization and writing style of this last volume in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy.
