Fun, Friends and ‘Vino’ at the Avinger Wine Festival

I never exactly associated Texas with wine country. But the Lone Star State has a surprising number of locally owned wineries that produce some unusual and delicious varieties of vino. We discovered many of those at the first Avinger Wine Festival earlier today.
With our friends, Jake and AnaLyse Raney, Vicki Pyle and Virginia Coleman, we drove about an hour west of Texarkana to the small town of Avinger where the community dished up jazz, crafts, tasty eats and lots of specialty wines in an intimate garden setting.
The event was very well attended, and it seemed that Red Road Winery‘s chocolate wine was the fan favorite that day, at least among our group. Vicki and Virginia both purchased bottles of it to enjoy at home, while the Raney’s stocked up on a wide assortment of flavors.
It was a very enjoyable event and one that will take place again next fall on Sept. 20, 2014. Visit Avinger Wine Festival online for details about the second annual event.
