Jathan, Heather and the Lone Star State

Jathan and Heather are moving to Texas! After more than a decade of dishing up tasty recipes and entertaining hordes of guests, family and friends in Cincinnati, they will take on their next big adventure in the Lone Star state.
Whether you know us personally or simply via our blog, you’re likely aware that Heather and I have spent the past 12 years living in Cincinnati, although from time to time we took our culinary adventures on the road to some of our favorite spots around the nation like New Mexico, California and even New York. But at the end of the day, we always returned to the Queen City.
Now we’re pulling up roots and heading for Texas, ready for change, lots of barbecue, and a little boot, scoot and boogie. The adventure began when I accepted a job in Texarkana with a company called Townsquare Media. There, I serve as the digital managing editor for five radio stations, which basically means that I handle anything digital and do everything from produce to write, shoot video and photos, edit, report, and mentor a great team of nine bloggers/DJs.
The new job also means that Heather finally left her post at the Cincinnati Public Library after 29 years of service. And after more than 36 years of living in Cincinnati, she would leave behind the Bengals, five-ways and chicken dances and trade them in for rodeos, Stetsons, and Tex-Mex. She will also try her hand at a new job doing sales, customer service and safety training for a sheet metal fabrication company which will be unlike anything she’s ever done before.
While both of us will miss the wonderful people we’ve come to know in Cincinnati over the years, we’re keeping in mind what Andre Gide once said, “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” We know the old friends will visit, and we’ve definitely not seen Cincy for the final time, even though we’re currently on the road with Ohio in our rear view mirror.
We’re excited because life just handed us a new opportunity for personal growth and we look forward to meeting new faces, tasting new foods, having grand adventures and embracing the heart and people of the Lone Star state.
